World Refugee Day Stands as A Symbol of Human Strength and Determination for Me and Thousands of Other Refugees
I hope that by continuing my efforts, I can serve as a bridge between languages, cultures, and communities, contributing in my own way to developing a more just and humane world

World Refugee Day, observed on June 20th, is an opportunity to share the bittersweet stories of refugees worldwide, fostering a better understanding of their challenges and hopes. As a refugee in Austria, I have personally experienced the numerous difficulties associated with migration and asylum. Issues related to higher education and my journalism career have cast a long shadow over my journey.
Upon my arrival in Austria, I was confronted with a new and unfamiliar world. A new language, a different culture, and an alien system—all became part of my daily challenges. Despite holding university degrees and having a background in journalism, finding a suitable job related to my field was a formidable task. Language barriers and needing to validate my academic credentials further complicated my professional path.
However, life as a refugee or asylum seeker extends beyond professional hurdles. The feeling of estrangement, longing for family, and separation from friends, as well as the constant effort to find a suitable social standing, are daily struggles. Even in moments of despair, I have strived to use my journalistic experience to amplify the voices of other refugees, asylum seekers, and migrants to responsible communities.
One of my significant experiences in Austria has been participating in social and cultural activities. These engagements have helped me not only to understand the new language and culture better but also to meet various individuals and build a network of new friends and colleagues. Throughout this journey, I have endeavored to share the stories of other refugees—tales of hope, resilience, and the pursuit of a better life.
World Refugee Day stands as a symbol of human strength and determination for me and thousands of other refugees. This day reminds us that despite all challenges and difficulties, there is always hope for a better future. It also offers the host community a chance to view refugees with greater openness and empathy, recognizing that each of us brings a wealth of experience, knowledge, and culture.
Therefore, living in Austria has taught me to continuously pursue learning, education, development, growth, and pride, even in the most challenging situations. I hope that by continuing my efforts, I can serve as a bridge between languages, cultures, and communities, contributing in my own way to developing a more just and humane world.
