UNICEF: More Than One Million Girls in Afghanistan Have Been Deprived of the Right to Education
UNICEF emphasized that the continued deprivation of girls from education will affect the future generation of this country
The UN Children's Fund, UNICEF, announced on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, that more than one million girls in Afghanistan have been denied the right to education.
UNICEF emphasized that the continued deprivation of girls from education will affect the future generation of this country. The United Nations Children's Fund wrote in a note on X social network that education is the lifeline for children in Afghanistan.
Emphasizing the investment in the education sector, this organization wrote: "By investing in the education sector, we invest in the future of the country." According to UN statistics, 1.4 million girls above the sixth grade in Afghanistan are deprived of education.
OCHA wrote in a report on Monday that if they do not receive help, hundreds of thousands of children who are currently being educated in classrooms will be denied access to primary education and will be at risk of illiteracy, early marriage, and gender-based violence.
After taking over Afghanistan in the summer of 2021, the Taliban closed all girls' schools above the sixth grade. The group has also banned girls from going to university and banned women from working with NGOs.
