The Marriage of Iranian Women with Foreigners Depends on the State's Permission
According to Article 1061 of the Civil Code, any foreign national who marries an Iranian woman without the government's permission will be sentenced to one to three years in prison
According to Mohajir Times, the Director General of Foreign Nationals and Immigrant Affairs of Fars Governorate of Iran announced this news on Saturday, April 6, 2024, and said: According to Article 1059 and Article 1060 of the Civil Code, the marriage of an Iranian woman with a foreign man is subject to special permission from the Iranian government. This task has been entrusted to the general offices of foreign nationals in all provinces. According to Article 1061 of the Civil Code, any foreign national who marries an Iranian woman without the government's permission will be sentenced to one to three years in prison.
He added: Some illegal foreign nationals marry Iranian women in Sham Marriages with various tricks and abuse the goodwill of Iranian families in order to obtain residency. After not receiving residency, regardless of the conditions of their spouses and children from this illegal marriage, they leave the country and impose many problems on Iranian women and society.
Behrang Ghorbani, who is the general director of the foreign national department of Shiraz province of Iran, emphasized that the marriage of Iranian women with foreign nationals has been followed by numerous and sometimes irreparable challenges and problems. If necessary, before any marriage with foreign nationals, refer to the General Directorate of Foreign Nationals and Immigrants and consult with legal experts.
This is while the marriage of Iranian women to foreign nationals in Iran has faced many problems before as well, including the non-issuance of identity certificates to the children of such marriages.
