According to Mohajir Times, citing Ketab News, the translation of the lovers’ book, Afghanistan’s Romeo and Juliet was published. The lovers book Afghanistan’s Romeo and Juliet is a documentary work authored by Rod Nordland, a New York Times journalist. It describes the ups and downs of the love story of two young Afghan lovers named “Mohammad Ali and Zakia.” Afghanistan’s Romeo and Juliet or Mohammad Ali and Zakia are the real heroes and characters of the story.
Mohammad Ali is of Hazara ethnicity and Shia religion, and Zakia is of Tajik ethnicity and Sunni religion, so based on the traditional customs and traditions of the Afghanistan society, love and marriage between such customs and traditions are prohibited. Even the laws and orders of forbidden love in the traditional societies of Afghanistan are death and stoning.
This book results from the author’s research and field interviews with the lovers of Afghanistan, which describes and depicts the details and general adventures of the love story of Mohammad Ali and Zakia. The story starts in the place, right from Bamyan province in central Afghanistan, from the place where Mohammad Ali and Zakia fall in love in neighboring fields or during the days of shepherding sheep to the pastures in the high mountains of Bamyan province in the Hindu Kush mountain range.
Here, only the word falling in love was not crucial for this young and loving couple from Afghanistan, but keeping their untainted love alive, reaching it, staying at it, and also fighting for its victory until the end of life and death had thousands of importance.
The lovers’ book, Afghanistan’s Romeo and Juliet, not only deals with the adventures of the word love and falling in love of Mohammad Ali and Zakia in the traditional society of Afghanistan but also with discriminations, pains, abnormalities, revenge, injustices and finally about “A Forbidden Love” of consequences and Its aftershocks speaks in the culture and traditional societies of Afghanistan. So, the first Farsi-Dari translation of this work was published by Kimyaei Andisheh Publishing House and translated by Asadullah Jafari (Pezhman) in 1000 paperback copies-octavo format and 414 pages in the winter of 2024.
Lovers of Afghanistan are the real and main characters of the story named Mohammad Ali and Zakia, authored by New York Times correspondent Rod Nordland. The English version of Lovers’ book, Afghanistan’s Romeo and Juliet, was published in 2016 by Ecco and HarperCollins publications in America, Australia, and Canada. So far, this work has also been translated into several languages of the world, including Italian, German, Brazilian, and Portuguese.
