Residence of Afghan Migrants, Even with Permits, Is Prohibited in Eastern Azerbaijan, Iran
This judicial official called for sensitivity in preventive actions and requested to issue and enforce firm judicial rulings to address crimes in this area
According to Mohajir Times, quoting Mehr News Agency, Ahmad Moghari emphasized addressing violations during a task force meeting on foreign nationals in Eastern Azerbaijan. He noted that most foreign nationals in the country are from Afghanistan due to cultural proximity, shared language, border proximity, and ease of travel.
The Deputy for Social Affairs and Crime Prevention at the East Azerbaijan Judiciary stated, "According to resolutions and higher-level documents, the residence of Afghan nationals, even with residence permits, is prohibited in Eastern Azerbaijan." He stressed the importance of adhering to the laws regarding the residence of foreign nationals in Eastern Azerbaijan. He mentioned that judicial and law enforcement interventions are in place to prevent illegal residence.
Moghari highlighted that conditions have changed since the Taliban came to power in Afghanistan, adding that the influx of various groups of Afghan nationals to Iran has been significant and noticeable. He reiterated, "Based on resolutions and higher-level documents, the residence of Afghan nationals, even with residence permits, is prohibited in several provinces, including Eastern Azerbaijan."
Moghari pointed out the grounds and incentives for employing Afghan nationals in factories in Iran and the province, stating that industrial entities are significantly interested in hiring these individuals for various reasons.
He appreciated the preventive security, law enforcement, and judicial interventions in managing this issue, stating, "If effective and deterrent actions and oversight are not in place, there will undoubtedly be an increased interest in the presence and employment of Afghan nationals."
