Purchasing Property in Iran by Migrants in Other's Name Is Illegal
He warned that if the systems and authorities responsible for oversight encounter such violations, they will take action
Mohajir Times — Ahmad Vahidi, Iran's Minister of Interior, announced that the purchase of property by foreign nationals to others' names is illegal. Mr. Vahidi stated that some individuals might have done this in others' names, which is considered an illegal act. On Sunday, July 14, 2024, in an interview with ILNA news agency, Ahmad Vahidi said: “The purchase of houses by foreign nationals is subject to regulations, which we currently do not have. Therefore, the purchase of property in the name of a foreign national is not relevant at this time.”
He warned that if the systems and authorities responsible for oversight encounter such violations, they will take action. Vahidi also reported that a significant number of “illegal” Afghans have been expelled from Iran, and this process is ongoing. According to the Iranian Minister of Interior, some Afghans entered Iran with tourist visas, but their visa durations have expired, and they are now working in Iran. He stated that this is unacceptable.
Mr. Vahidi emphasized: “Any foreign nationals who are in the country without permission must certainly return, and this is on the agenda. In Tehran as well, we tell our dear neighbors who have come here that those without permits must return, and those with permits must operate strictly within the framework of their permits.”
And, also, previously, the Director-General of Foreign Nationals and Immigrants Affairs of Kermanshah Province had announced the prohibition of movement, residence, and employment of Afghan migrants in 16 provinces. These provinces include East Azerbaijan, West Azerbaijan, Ardabil, Zanjan, Kurdistan, Kermanshah, Ilam, Lorestan, Chaharmahal-E-Bakhtiari, Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad, Gilan, Mazandaran, Sistan and Baluchestan, Hormozgan, and Hamadan.
However, last year, more than 540 Iranian artists, lawyers, doctors, journalists, civil and social activists called for an end to the harassment of Afghan migrants in Iran. They described the formation and promotion of movements that incite violence, hatred, and discrimination against migrants and refugees as a “disastrous regression of Iranian society.” The signatories of this letter had pointed to the rise of anti-immigrant movements against Afghans residing in Iran, which began in the final days of the summer of 2023. #mohajirtimes
