Prohibition of Afghanistan Refugees' Activities in Mashhad's Retailing Markets

The Commission on Social Affairs of the Governorate of Mashhad has approved a ban on the activities of Afghanistani refugees under any title in all retailing markets of this city. The Governorate of Mashhad, through an official order, has prohibited the presence of non-Iranian nationals under any title in all retailing markets of Mashhad starting from today, Saturday, December 23, 2023.
Hassan Kelidari, the CEO of the Urban Business Organization of Mashhad Municipality, stated, "According to the decision of the Commission on Social Affairs of the Governorate of this city, as of the 23rd December 2023, the activities of foreign nationals under any title in ala retailing markets of Mashhad, the capital of Khorasan Razavi Province, are prohibited."
This directive had also been displayed on a sign at the entrance gate of the Friday Market in the city of Mashhad yesterday. The order comes at a time when, according to the statistics of the General Directorate of Foreign Nationals and Immigrants of Khorasan Razavi, the number of registered Afghan refugees or those with residence permits in Mashhad is approximately half a million. So, this figure constitutes 95% of the total legal and illegal foreign nationals in this province.
