According to Mohajir Times — A video showing the plan to collect Afghan and undocumented migrants in the Farahzad area of Tehran has sparked widespread reactions on social media.
In this video, which has received various responses from social media users, the collection of Afghan migrants from workshops and the streets of Tehran by the Second Special Police Battalion of Tehran can be seen.
Some users have written that the Iranian police must respect the human dignity of the migrants and should not subject them to public humiliation, beatings, or insults, as if they are criminals. The video shows Tehran Special Police soldiers gathering Afghan migrants from factories and city streets where they perform physically demanding and hard labor, handcuffing them with plastic strings typically used in poultry slaughterhouses in Iran.
In response to this video, some users have written that these days, the Iranian police are bullying with the most vulnerable people, who are the Afghan migrants in Iran. Migrants and refugees are subjected to beatings and mistreatment, whether in public, in hidden, or in camps. Users noted that such behavior is not characteristic of Muslims, even towards senior criminals.
Afghanistani migrants in Iran are employed in the hardest jobs for the lowest wages by companies and factories, and they are deprived of any human rights in terms of facilities, healthcare, insurance, and proper living conditions. Often, Afghan workers' wages are withheld by Iranian employers and are not paid.
This comes after the killing of an Iranian citizen following an altercation with Afghan migrants in Tehran, which has led to increased forced deportations by the police and heightened mistreatment of migrants in Tehran. However, in this case, it is still unclear who is truly responsible for the incident.
Migration experts believe that crime is a personal matter and should not be generalized to individuals or groups. If there are fair judicial institutions in Iran, they should determine the fate of criminals according to the law and prevent the general public from attacking migrants and their families.
