According to VOC News, citing sources from Indonesia, a group of people attacked Afghanistani refugees. Sources report that one person has been severely injured in this attack and has been transferred to a hospital.
Sources from the city of Pospakro, Indonesia, stated that on Saturday, December 23, 2023, some criminal gangs attacked a hotel that served as the residence for some refugees, injuring them.
Sources add that these criminal gangs consistently extort refugees, claiming that refugees do not have the right to use hotels, public transportation, and means of transportation.
Ezzatullah Ahmadi, a refugee rights activist, speaking to VOC News, says that these criminal gangs extort refugees, forcibly take away their belongings, and seize them. He further adds that they have raised this issue with the Indonesian government multiple times, but no attention has been paid to it.
So far, no one has been arrested by the Indonesian government in connection with this attack. Afghanistani refugees have been stranded in Indonesia for nearly a decade-half, and to date, 17 of them have committed suicide due to the lack of handling of their cases. #VOV-#mohajirtimes
