An Afghanistani Migrant Worker Dies in Southern Tehran
Afghan migrant workers in Iran, with the least wages, inadequate living conditions, and the most minor safety measures, are engaged in the hardest, longest, and most dangerous duties
According to Mohajir Times, A 70-year-old Afghan migrant worker lost his life due to a fall while digging a well in Iran. Seyed Jalal Malaki, spokesperson for the Tehran Municipality's Firefighting and Safety Services, announced to the media on Tuesday the death of an Afghan migrant worker as a result of a fall while digging a well in southern Tehran.
According to Malaki, the 70-year-old man fell into the well as he was attempting to descend into it. According to a statement from the Tehran Municipality's Firefighting Department, the Afghan migrant fell suddenly into the well while descending to a depth of 28 meters in an agricultural field dedicated to vegetable cultivation.
After several hours, Tehran Municipality firefighters in southern Tehran successfully retrieved the lifeless body of the individual from inside the well. Following the rise of the Taliban in Afghanistan, most Afghan citizens have migrated to neighboring countries such as Iran and Pakistan due to poverty, unemployment, and lack of security. Unofficial statistics suggest that more than five million Afghan migrants live in Iran.
This incident is not the first for migrant workers in Iran due to the lack of proper welfare facilities and minor safety measures. Prior to this, there have been numerous incidents involving migrant workers.
