The police of Islamabad, Pakistan, announced that a migrant man from Afghanistan committed suicide because his case for immigration to Canada was not processed.
According to the police, this man hanged himself on Friday, February 16, 2024, in the Barakahu region of Islamabad. The police quoted the asylum seeker's wife as saying that the reason for his suicide was the failure to handle his immigration case.
The Islamabad police wrote in a newsletter on their "X" channel that this refugee had committed suicide once before. According to the sources, this refugee, Mohammad Shafaei, was a resident of the Jaghori district of Ghazni Province, Afghanistan, and his body was moved from the hospital to a mosque in the Barakahu region to be transferred to Afghanistan.
However, this is not the first suicide of asylum seekers in Pakistan. In the past, several young Afghan immigrants have committed suicide due to the lack of handling of their immigration cases by the host countries and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.
