Alienation Is One of the Natural Outcomes of Migration and Living in a Different Culture

Migration is one of the complex and multifaceted phenomena in human societies that profoundly impacts the lives of individuals and future generations. Afghanistani migrants in Iran are no exception to this rule, and their experiences over decades of residence in this country have had various effects on their personalities and behaviors. One of the characteristics attributed to the generation of Afghan migrants in Iran is conservatism.
Living in unfavorable conditions and facing discrimination and restrictions have turned them into cautious individuals who trust with difficulty and tend to avoid potential dangers. This conservatism may stem from bitter past experiences and the effort to lead a life that is not quite normal. Among the other traits mentioned for this generation are selfishness and being complex-ridden.
These traits might result from intense competition for limited resources and the struggle to survive in a society that is not welcoming to them. Such senseless competition can diminish the sense of empathy and cooperation, driving individuals towards selfishness. Complexes arising from discrimination and unjust treatments can also lead to behaviors interpreted by society as being complex-ridden.
Being unsocial and delusional are other traits mentioned by this generation. Living in closed communities and on the margins, along with social, economic, cultural, and educational limitations, can result in social isolation and the inability to establish healthy and stable relationships among the burnt-out generations. This isolation can cause individuals to turn to delusional thoughts, feeling that others always intend to harm them.
Alienation is also one of the natural outcomes of migration and living in a different culture. Afghanistani migrants in Iran may face identity challenges, such that they neither fully consider themselves Iranian nor can they connect entirely with the culture of their homeland. This situation creates a feeling of alienation and a lack of belonging to their ancestral and authentic community.
